Ultimate Fab & Fix handle for Savoy Hotel

As part of the £110 million refit at London’s world-famous Savoy Hotel, new steel windows were fitted with the ultimate in bespoke handles supplied by specialist hardware manufacturer Fab & Fix.

The FF04 handles in a 9010 RAL shade of creamy white were specified by Clement Steel Windows, which installed the 200 casements to Secured by Design standards. The new windows replace the 1920s end-of-life fenestration on the landmark building’s riverside elevation.

Steel was selected for its aesthetically-pleasing slim sightlines, compliance with heritage requirements, plus 24mm glazed units to meet the required thermal efficiency standards. Also suitable for PVC-U, aluminium and timber applications, all Fab & Fix window and door hardware is rigorously tested and conforms to British and European quality, security and performance standards.

Plymouth Homes

Virtually every property in Plymouth owned by new social landlord Plymouth Community Homes will have high security doors featuring Fab & Fix hardware as part of a major £168 million refurbishment programme over the next five years.

Plymouth Community Homes is a new Housing Association formed in November 2009 to manage the 14,800 homes transferred to it from the city council. The investment programme aims to bring all properties up to and beyond the Decent Homes Standard with around 2,500 homes initially undergoing refurbishment to March 2011.

Plymouth Community Homes chose the widely-specified, high performance products from leading hardware specialist Fab & Fix because their robustness and attractive contoured finish represented “quality at the right price”.

Specified for additional security and to improve the properties’ external appearance, replacement PVC-U doors in flats and houses across the city will use the Fab & Fix Windsor door handle and user-friendly durable Nu-Mail letterplate in bright chrome. White Haven 3DL hinges and Fab & FixLock anti-manipulation, high security lock cylinders will also be fitted to the new doors, including those for side doors, sheds and outhouses.

Specially-designed to prevent bumping, the latest form of burglary, the six-pin Fab & FixLock Security Cylinder has anti-tamper and anti-drill properties providing unrivalled levels of security and reliable performance. Conforming to BS EN 1303:2005 and PAS 24 requirements, the cylinder has been tested to the highest Grade 2 standard on attack and comes with four keys to meet modern household needs.

In addition to supplying hardware, Fab & Fix also provided door jigs to the housing association to help ensure accurate and speedy hinge location during the door fabrication process. PVC-U door production at their in-house facility has increased from 10-15 doors per week to up to 120 as a result of the five-year refurbishment contract.

Fab & Fix is also consulting with Plymouth Community Homes over the supply of hardware for specialist fire doors to be installed in the upgraded flats.
